Health & Safety Institute

How long does it take to get a permit after I apply?

Processing times vary significantly based on the volume of applications at the NYPD License Division. It can take several months. Accuracy is key—errors or missing documents are the primary cause of delays or denials. That is why many of our students choose our Permit Application Assistance service.

What are the current training requirements for an NYC Concealed Carry (CCW) license?

As of the current regulations, applicants for an NYC concealed carry license must complete an in-person, 16-hour classroom safety training course plus a 2-hour live-fire assessment. This course covers firearm safety, state and federal laws, conflict de-escalation, and situational awareness.

Does my CCW training certificate expire?

At this time, the response is no. The validity of your certificate of completion is limited to a designated period. Local licensing authorities may necessitate the submission of a new certificate should yours exceed the timeframe mandated by the state. Furthermore, when renewing your license, completion of updated safety training is also required.
